At the Sildor Foundation, we believe that fighting poverty through education requires not only concrete action alongside communities, but also rigorous, transparent and responsible management of our organization.

Our governance rests on values and principles that shape our decisions, frame our practices and guide the people who contribute to our mission. Our institutional policies set out the Foundation’s commitments regarding ethics, resource management, equity and the protection of people.

We are committed to improving our practices in order to maintain a way of operating that is consistent with our mission, our responsibilities and the legitimate expectations of our partners, our beneficiaries and the organizations that support our work.

Governance

Our institutional policies and governance documents

The Sildor Foundation’s policies set out shared principles and guidelines for behaviour, decisions and practices within the organization.

1Code of values and ethics

The Sildor Foundation’s Code of values and ethics sets out the principles that guide the conduct, decisions and relationships of the people who contribute to its mission. It aims to preserve trust in the Foundation’s integrity and impartiality and to promote responsible, transparent practices.

It rests on five core values: collaboration, dignity, empathy, mutual support and transparency. These values translate into respect for people, attention to needs, fairness, cooperation and the careful use of resources in the service of communities.

The Code sets out the duties of directors, officers, volunteers, employees and contributors. In particular, it governs conflicts of interest, confidentiality, gifts and invitations, and the prevention of bribery and corruption. It also provides for checks related to compliance with the economic and financial sanctions that apply to the Foundation.

Mechanisms make it possible to report breaches and ensure they are reviewed impartially, with respect for the people involved. The Code prohibits retaliation against anyone who reports in good faith or takes part in a review. A membership form accompanies the document to formalize the commitment of the people concerned to respect its values and rules.

Through this framework, the Sildor Foundation reaffirms its determination to act with integrity, responsibility and respect, in keeping with its mission: fighting poverty through education.

2Gender policy

The Sildor Foundation recognizes that gender equality contributes to the fight against poverty and to fair access to education. Its gender policy aims to give girls and boys, women and men fair opportunities to benefit from its programs and to take part in the life of their community.

This policy integrates gender issues into all of the Foundation’s activities, as well as into its governance and management practices. It pays particular attention to the obstacles faced by girls and women, while taking into account each person’s needs and comparable situations of vulnerability. In particular, it encourages participation, self-reliance and the fight against stereotypes in educational, economic and artistic paths.

The Foundation affirms zero tolerance for discrimination, harassment and gender-based violence. The policy provides confidential and accessible reporting mechanisms, prohibits retaliation following a good-faith report, and includes awareness-raising for teams, families and communities as part of its prevention approach.

Monitoring indicators make it possible to assess program participation and results by sex in order to guide adjustments. Through these commitments, Sildor intends to advance equal opportunity and contribute to a safe, inclusive and respectful environment for all.

3Policy on protection from sexual exploitation and abuse

The Sildor Foundation is committed to preventing sexual exploitation and abuse in all its activities and to responding quickly and appropriately to any reported situation. Based on a zero-tolerance principle, its policy aims to protect the people who take part in its programs, especially children, young people and people in vulnerable situations.

This policy defines prohibited behaviour and the responsibilities of the people who work for the Foundation. In particular, it prohibits any sexual activity with a person under 18, as well as any request for sexual favours in exchange for help, a service or a benefit. It provides for prevention measures, training and reference checks during recruitment.

Accessible reporting mechanisms allow beneficiaries and their families to report a situation, verbally or in writing, in French or Creole, without having to provide proof. The policy governs the confidential handling of reports and prohibits any retaliation following a good-faith report or participation in an investigation.

The planned response puts the safety, dignity and rights of the people concerned first, with particular attention to the best interests of the child. It includes access to appropriate assistance, referral to specialized services and impartial handling of allegations. Through this framework, Sildor intends to ensure a protective and respectful environment in carrying out its mission.

4Anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy

The Sildor Foundation is committed to protecting the resources entrusted to it and to ensuring that they fully serve its mission: fighting poverty through education. Its anti-fraud and anti-corruption policy aims to prevent, detect and address behaviour that could compromise the integrity of its activities, the sound management of its resources and the trust of its partners and of the communities it supports in Beaumont and Corail, Haiti.

Based on a principle of zero tolerance for fraud and corruption, this policy covers in particular the prevention of misappropriation of funds or equipment, conflicts of interest, favouritism, bribes and illicit payments. It provides for control measures, reporting mechanisms and appropriate handling of reported situations, with respect for confidentiality, impartiality and the people involved.

This policy binds the people who contribute to the Foundation’s activities, as well as operational partners and suppliers, according to their role and their relationship with the organization. It reflects Sildor’s determination to manage its resources responsibly and to preserve the trust essential to fulfilling its mission.

5Administrative, financial and accounting procedures manual

The Sildor Foundation’s manual sets out the rules and responsibilities that govern its day-to-day operations. It serves as a reference for directors, staff, volunteers and partners to ensure consistent, rigorous and transparent management.

It presents governance and organizational structure, human resources management, budget planning, expense authorization, bookkeeping, and control and accountability mechanisms. It also covers program monitoring, partnerships, communications and equipment management. Practical tools in the appendices make it easier to apply.

This framework contributes to the responsible use of resources in the service of our mission: fighting poverty through education.

Our bylaws

The Sildor Foundation’s bylaws define its mission, its governance structure and the rules that govern how it operates. In particular, they set out the responsibilities of its governing bodies, decision-making procedures, and management and accountability mechanisms.
