Sildor: Surname of an old family from the commune of Beaumont, in the Grand’Anse department of Haiti. The Sildor, Sildort, Syldort or C\u00e9la families come from Maniche, a commune in the Cayes department. The first, or only, settler in Beaumont in the early 1900s was Louizal C\u00e9la Sildor (Zal). Louizal met a beautiful Beaumont woman, Monilia Louis-Jean, with whom he started a family and made Beaumont his home for the rest of his life. Papa Zal will have left R\u00e9zilda (Loulouse), Louisa, Elissainte and C\u00e9lamise Sildor.<\/p>\n

They were a family of extremely humble beginnings, who over time relied on education and hard work (farming, stockbreeding and small businesses) to carve out a place for themselves in the community.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

Today, the family’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren include upstanding citizens and high-calibre professionals in all fields and spheres of activity, both in Haiti and abroad.<\/p>\n

The Foundation wants to draw inspiration from this family’s history to offer a better tomorrow to children who really need it.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>

History<\/h3><\/div>

The Sildor Foundation was set up in the wake of Hurricane Matthew, which devastated southern Haiti. Beaumont is located in the Grand’Anse department between the South department capital, Les Cayes, and the Grand’Anse department capital, J\u00e9r\u00e9mie.<\/p>\n

A visit by Alourdes Bernard Pierre immediately after the cyclone gave a good idea of the extent of the damage in this small town or village, known for its legendary liveliness.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

But Beaumont was on his knees. There was plenty to do, as in most neighboring towns\/villages.<\/span><\/p>\n

The first action was a group of children from an underprivileged area called <\/span>Anba nan kafe<\/b> for a gesture of solidarity, with a hot meal, games, storytelling and more. Moms were on hand to offer their help with both supervision and cooking. And here we go!<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>
